Why choose a road bike on Elba?

Elba is also suitable for nice road trips but be careful: the island is full of challenging climbs that can be distasteful for the less trained. The western part of the island is certainly the most beautiful if tackled in an anti-clockwise direction: a road that descends slightly for several kilometers giving speed and breathtaking scenery.

ELBA ISLAND TOUR BY ROAD BIKE

The standard tour of Elba Island by racing bike measures 115km for 2300m of altitude difference. The complete tour measures 148km for 2700m but includes a dirt road section in Capoliveri on the Costa dei Gabbiani of about 11km.

Anti-clockwise recommended to enjoy the Costa del Sole (western coast) downhill: one of the most suggestive stretches of the entire tour. As you can see from the photos, the complete tour includes entering Monte Calamita (Capoliveri) and going past the Costa dei Gabbiani: It is a simple dirt road but, on a racing bike, it is not recommended given the risk of punctures caused by the various sharp pebbles present (after all, it was the site of iron mines). COMPLETE ELBA ISLAND TOUR ROAD BIKE

A good 148km for 2700m of altitude difference that will put you to the test. Possible pleasant refreshment points can be found on the dirt road of Capoliveri (near our headquarters in Capoliveri, EAST side) or in the square of Marciana (with a splendid view of Marciana Marina, WEST side).
